Going for holidays is no longer a luxury. We all need to do it to replenish our systems so that we can be more effective. As the holiday season approaches, plan to take and enjoy your holiday, and when it is over, you will start the year with renewed optimism and energy.

The following are ten (10) ways you can use to save for holidays.

  1. At the beginning of the year, have a budget to include all you need for a holiday. This may include but not limited to accommodation and meals, flights, vehicles, fuel, insurance and money for extras.
  2. Start saving and shopping early. Have a separate holiday account and deposit a small amount consistently. Use reward points and frequent flier option as much as possible. These can add to a lot of revenue for your holiday .
  3. Take a local option. Kenya has very beautiful places to visit and any country has such. You just need to explore options and it can be such fun at a small cost. This will get your family to know the gems near them as they enjoy the holiday.
  4. Book your holiday well in advance. If you do this, there are many offers that you can take advantage of and the prices are modest.
  5. Go for holiday during the off peak period when there are very few people in the holiday destinations. You will be able to do this for a song. You can also negotiate for very good rates. And because not many people are taking holidays at the off peak, you will get kingly treatment. Most facilities will all be yours with a few others with the same mindset.
  6. Book a place where you can make your own meals and buy your own drinks. Food and drinks can make a holiday very expensive especially when traveling with children. One way to beat this is by booking fully furnished apartments where you can buy food from inexpensive outlets and prepare them at your apartment. This will be a good bonding time with family.
  7. Travel as a group. This can be arranged by a travel agent or you can do it with family and friends. You can car pool, share an apartment, make meals together and just have fun! There is nothing as good as having a relaxed time with friends
  8. As you book your holidays, look out for sales, discounts and holiday deals. There are always options and alternatives if you are willing to spend time checking these out.
  9. Plan for an all inclusive package. The extra money you spend on drinks and food can add to a huge budget. So plan well and book an all inclusive package with drinks included. This will save you a tone of money and will be less stressful having to satisfy each member of the family with their different food and drink preferences.
  10. List your house for other travelers to use. As you travel, you can also make some money by enlisting your house for other travelers to use and get paid for this. There are many companies you could list your house with (airbnb, booking.com, expedia, hotels.com and others) so that other travelers can find, book and use your house for some returns.
